A car with no infotainment OS of its own, but rather has screencast capabilities (phone screen appears on car screen and is interactive) and then there’s a cubby in the dash somewhere that has inductive charging so your phone doesn’t die.

I’ve always wanted a car that has a little bezel you clip your phone/tablet into instead of coming with a cheap touchscreen that doesn’t work as well. I already own and actively carry around two touchscreens, so why should I have to buy a cheap one that comes with the car?

I’m already working on this.

Won't happen, as car companies won't be able to charge you $2500 for their nav/infotainment. I think the first cars with apple car play and android auto still require the nav/tech packages, it's ridiculous.

I think the new Smart Fortwo does that.

But does it have a wireless charging pad to keep your phone alive?

I think the biggest issue here would be trying to keep people from texting or web browsing while driving.

I don’t think so, just USB power.

I think there is a car with wireless charging for phones, maybe the Avalon? But it uses a different standard, like the equivalent to Energizer when accessory companies are using the Duracell-standard-equivalent and Nokia/Microsoft are using the Qi standard. Unfortunately none of the wireless charging standards are really that effective, especially if using the phone for battery-sucking GPS, so a convenient USB port with maximum power (5A, IIRC) would work better, until every device OEM goes to USB-C or a new standard is implemented.

lol, I agree.
But the Passat (without touchscreen) has a big, empty void of space in the center console. I took two pieces of tape, and placed my phone in it. Then I took my car charger and USB, plugged them into my phone, and boom, Multimedia interface, streaming music and navigation over car stereo, all with just a USB and two pieces of tape!
